The 2011 British Fashion Awards

Over the past few years, the UK’s annual celebration of achievements in British fashion has burst onto the radar and garnered almost as much attention as the American counterpart, the CFDA Awards. This year, with a star-studded line-up of winners, presenters, and attendees, the British Fashion Council, and the judging panel, which includes every major editor in the UK and some from America, honored some of the most notable established and emerging designers in Britain.

Hosted by television personalities, George Lamb and Lauren Laverne, faces such as Kate Hudson, Marc Jacobs, Colin Firth, and Kate Moss joined industry leaders to fete British talent. Most notably celebrated were Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, who was favorite to win Designer of the Year, Victoria Beckham, who beat out brands such as Burberry and Tom Ford for Designer Brand, and Mary Katrantzou, whose print-heavy collections have finally earned her a place in the big leagues. The only award with a public vote, the British Style award, resulted in a surprising result as Alexa Chung took home the prize for the second year in a row, in spite of many being convinced that the prize would go to the Duchess of Cambridge.

Here is the complete list of this year’s winners:
