J. Mendel
For Pre-Fall 2012 Gilles Mendel showcased what he does best – floor-sweeping eveningwear and luscious fur. Gowns came carefully pleated and beautifully draped in monochrome colorways, while fur made its way onto jackets, vests, gloves, and scarves.

3.1 Phillip Lim
While the most memorable look of Phillip Lim’s Pre-Fall 2012 collection may have been his comic book-inspired block letter top paired with a leather skirt, the bulk of the collection consisted of understated closet staple pieces including monochrome high-waist skirts, fitted jackets, and chic trousers cut just above the ankle.

Proenza Schouler
It was all about hearty fabrics and statement outerwear in this season’s Proenza Schouler collection and while there was a sportswear feel to a number of the pieces (parkas, bungee cord drawstrings), the beautiful craftsmanship made this incredibly sophisticated collection one of the season’s best.

Vera Wang
There was a cozy feel to Vera Wang’s collection this season, despite a number of skin-exposing looks, thanks to careful layering and relatively simple silhouettes. Included in the line-up were both neutral pieces, colorful prints, and bold monochrome looks.
