Year’s end is always a time for reflection and in that spirit we’ve gathered the ten most buzzed about stories, topics, events and personalities that captured the attention of Fashion Spot forum members this year. Whether it was the meteoric ascent of one model, the changing of the guard at French Vogue, or several momentous marriages, forum members saw and talked about it all.
10. 90s Supermodels Reminded Us of Their Awesomeness
Though their Harper’s Bazaar UK cover failed to meet forum members’ high expectations (the Supers also disappointed us on the September issue of Vogue Spain) when the Supers starred in Duran Duran’s ‘Girl Panic’ music video, they reminded us all of why they fully embody the term “supermodel” and why (as far as I’m concerned) they will carry that title for life.

9. Kate Bosworth's Coachella Stylist Controversy
We profiled plenty of stellar style moments from Kate Bosworth in 2011, but one of the year’s most memorable moments was when it became clear that the actress had pre-planned her outfits for Coachella with her stylist/friend/business partner, Cher Coulter. Though she’s hardly the only celebrity to employ a stylist, she definitely caught a lot of criticism for her supposed failure to dress herself for the music festival.

8. Michelle Williams as Marilyn Monroe
Marilyn Monroe’s image has been appropriated by countless starlets when it comes to photo shoots, but the portrayal of the iconic Ms. Monroe on screen seems to be a bit more sacred. So, of course, there was much debate among forum members about Michelle Williams’ ability to capture Marilyn’s essence in My Week With Marilyn. Seeing as she’s now been nominated for a Best Actress Award at the Golden Globes, it’s clear she was able to rise to the challenge.
Vogue featured Michelle in full Marilyn garb on the cover of their October issue in anticipation of the film’s release.
7. Arizona Muse
At the start of the year, the relatively unknown model Arizona Muse made waves by seemingly appearing everywhere at once. When we profiled her in January she had already scored campaigns for Prada and YSL and was gracing the pages of nearly every important fashion magazine. She subsequently booked campaigns for Louis Vuitton, David Yurman, Chloé and more, and even had issues of Dazed & Confused and Vogue Australia dedicated to her. If that’s not conquering the fashion world, I don’t know what is.
I think Anna Wintour would agree with me, seeing as Arizona topped Vogue’s list of the 10 best models of 2011.

6. We Love All Things Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen
In 2011, forum members continue to adore (nearly) everything Mary-Kate and Ashley touched. The twins are showing the fashion world that they’re a force to be reckoned with. They launched an extremely luxe handbag line by their label The Row, and signed on to take over as Creative Heads for Italian sneaker label Superga.
The girls also continue to be trendsetting style stars; is there anything they can’t do?

5. Emmanuelle Alt Took the Helm at Vogue Paris
Emmanuelle Alt had big stilettos to fill when she took on Carine Roitfeld’s old job as Editor in Chief of Vogue Paris. The year had its ups and downs, with forum members watching Alt’s every move. She played it safe with Gisele on her first cover and produced several memorable covers including those featuring a jet setting Lara Stone and Isabeli Fontana as a Linda Evangelista look-alike. Her Charlotte Casiraghi cover missed the mark, but you can't win them all.

4. Obsessed With Fashion Editor Street Style
2011 was epic in terms of editor street style during fashion weeks across the globe. Thanks to the prevalence of masses of talented street style photographers, we got to ogle fantastic, inspiring, and occasionally over the top, looks from the likes of Taylor Tomasi Hill, Anna Dello Russo, Giovanna Battaglia, Shala Monroque, Joanna Hillman, Emmanuelle Alt, Miroslava Mikheeva-Duma and more.

3. Ongoing Drama at Dior
John Galliano’s drunken debacle kicked off a year of drama at Dior when he was fired from his position of Creative Director after slurring anti-Semitic comments at a couple in a café in Paris. The fact that the designer has yet to be replaced is the cause of continuing concern about the future of the brand.
At least when Dior wasn’t busy being the butt of every fashion industry joke this year, they created a Hollywood Icons commercial for their J’Adore Dior perfume featuring Charlize Theron and screen sirens of the past. It was a good reminder that despite all the madness there are still things to like about the brand.

2. Royal Wedding Fever
The forums, and everyone else on Earth, caught Royal Wedding fever as they breathlessly watched Kate Middleton walk down the aisle of Westminster Abbey in a custom gown designed by Alexander McQueen’s Sarah Burton. It was every inch the fairytale we had hope for.

1. Kate Moss Tied the Knot
In an epic fashion marriage, Kate Moss married long time love Jamie Hince of the Kills in July. The bride’s custom designed gown by John Galliano featured delicate embroidery and gold crystal beading. Luckily for us, the occasion was captured by photographer Mario Testino for Vogue’s September issue which of course, also featured Ms. Moss, the style icon on the cover.
