Though not officially recognized as a couture house (like Gucci), Versace has been hand making elaborate garments for years. For Spring 2012, however, Donatella Versace opted to stage a couture presentation for the first time in nearly eight years. As one would expect, it was a parade of second skin micro-minis and figure-hugging gowns with thigh-high slits not unlike the one worn by Angelina Jolie at this year’s Golden Globes.
A total of 15 looks, mostly of the sparkling variety, made their way down the runway with plenty of figure cinching corsetry and sculpted power shoulders to provide dramatic effect. The color palette was, for the most part, kept down to silver, bright green, and citrine.
Surely we'll be seeing at least one of these gown on the Oscar red carpet; Cameron Diaz, Diane Kruger, Abbie Cornish, and Ludivine Sagnier were among the women sitting front row.
