Monique Lhuillier Fall 2012 Runway Review

It was all in the details with Monique Lhuiller. Last season, the designer sent out a parade of sleek and sporty models with minimalist shapes and bold colors. This season, she took a turn for the dramatic with a rich, inky palette of blacks, greys, and bold scarlett reds. Even just a few days in, it's already clear that Fall 2012 is going to be seriously edgy and Lhullier's usual feminine frocks took a darker, more seductive turn. Design elements such as clean bands across the waist were carried over from last season but instead of being paired of bold, color-blocked looks, they were sewn on striking embellished dresses and separates.

In spite of the fact that the designer's biggest clients look to her for red carpet eveningwear, the collection was well rounded with a few pantsuits and shifts peppered between the sweeping gowns. With Deco-inspired lines, the cocktail wear is set to be a huge success but as usual the stand-out numbers were the sweeping gowns of the finale. The beauty look featured a clean and polished face with a strong red lip and a 'velvet' manicure by CND, which featured two of the brand's polishes and their Super Matte top coat. Starlet on the rise, Nina Dobrev, appreared front row and you an bet every major celebrity stylists was watching with eyes peeled. Now let's start the countdown to the Oscars and start guessing who will wear what.
