Derek Lam Fall 2012 Runway Review

Quirkier than what one might have expected, Derek Lam's Fall 2012 collection was nonetheless rife with wearable closet staples. The show opened with some Miu Miu-esque prints before progressing into more streamlined, classic looks, and it finished with four beautiful gowns — two of which combined lightweight fabric with cozy knits for a truly unique take on wintertime evening dress.

Outerwear was particularly strong this season with a slew of beautiful coats, notably a check one with a wide black collar and a fur-trimmed puffer vest. Pants included trim trousers and looser fitted cropped-at-the-ankle styles. It's worth underlining that the material of choice for Lam was to large extent leather this season, with the material popping up on everything from coats and pants to gowns for detailing.
