Calvin Klein Fall 2012 Runway Review

Not only did the Occupy Wall Street protesters minimally disrupt the show, in a major coup, Calvin Klein had both Emma Stone and Rooney Mara sitting front row at the Francisco Costa-designed Fall 2012 collection, each wearing one of the colors of the night: red or black. To boot, many of the models at this season’s show had glossy black hair, not unlike a cleaned-up version of Mara’s character in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, leaving one to wonder if Mara will opt for Klein for this year’s Oscars.

Were Mara to wear Klein for the awards ceremony, she would likely be wearing something custom;  despite there being plenty to love on this season’s runway, there wasn’t much in the way of Oscar-appropriate dresses. Instead, this season brimmed with clean-lined day looks and cocktail dresses done mostly in a black palette (there were moments of red, grey, and off-white as well). Crisply cut coats, sheer paneled cocktail dresses, sculpted dresses and tops (including leather ones) tightly cinched with slender silver belts, and pleated loosely draped trousers were among the impeccably understated offerings.

As clean, modern, and architectural as we’d expect from Calvin Klein, the collection also included some fur and embroidery for a little extra frill.
