The Art of Motion Picture Costume Design Exhibition

Hugo

Jane Eyre

Spread across one room, there are costumes from over 20 of the most acclaimed 2011 film releases, including all five nominees for the Academy Award for Best Costume Design. Among the 100 costumes are ones from Anonymous, The Artist, Hugo, Jane Eyre, W.E., Alice in Wonderland, The Help, and Water for Elephants and, more interestingly still, each of the costumes are fitted on mannequins whose bodies are exact replicas of the actor/actress who wore each of them (you can see just how tall — or not — Reese Witherspoon and Daniel Craig really are!).

The Artist

I’m not much of a movie buff and have to admit that I haven’t seen most of the films whose costumes are on display, but seeing the intricacy of each of these looks up close (it’s hard to resist touching…), is a truly unique opportunity and gave me a new appreciation for all the work that goes into the research, developement, and creation of film costumes.
