Sneak Peek: Ralph Rucci to be Honored at SCAD

As you read this, Ralph Rucci is finalizing the garments that will be included in his upcoming exhibit at the ALT Gallery in the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) Museum of Art in Savannah. The exhibit is slated to open May 19 and coincides with the couturier receiving SCAD’s Lifetime Achievement Award at the university’s annual fashion show. The award will be presented by SCAD President Paula Wallace and Vogue contributing editor André Leon Talley.

While the garments included in the exhibit are still in the process of being assembled, we were given an exclusive peek at one of the confirmed garment, pictured below. This exquisite haute couture dress is from the American couturier’s Spring 2012 collection and reflects the subtle details the designer is known for.

Rucci is the latest in a long line of fashion icons who have received this award, including Diane von Furstenberg, Oscar de la Renta, Karl Lagerfeld, Miuccia Prada, Tom Ford, Vera Wang, Marc Jacobs, John Galliano, Isabel and Ruben Toledo and, most recently, Manolo Blahnik. Much like past honorees, this isn't the first time Rucci is being honored in a musueum; his work has been featured in three solo shows. He is also the subject of a book, “Ralph Rucci: The Art of Weightlessness,” a documentary film by David Boatman, titled Ralph Rucci: A Designer and His House, and in 2008 he was honored with the National Design Award in fashion awarded by the Smithsonian Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum. In October 2011, his plaque on the “Fashion Walk of Fame” was unveiled and he is also the subject of a newly released film and book.
