ALEXANDER MCQUEEN MENS S/S 09 MILAN

This season Mr. McQueen wiped the slate clean of all of last season’s Wild West inspired tartan-fest and opted for a more sleek and futuristic approach.

Using nude tones, a bit reminiscent of Prada’s F/W 08 men’s collections, McQueen delivered an unexpected yet cohesive show. The flesh tones mixed with geometric slices of color are sleek and streamlined, yet relaxed silhouettes seem to be the trademark of the collection.

Striking metallics provided a great contrast to the dark solids and fleshy tones.  The metallic detailing appears to have a very fluid or even smoke-like effect, and gradient patterns were also prominent on trousers, jackets, blazers, and dresses.  The collection was a success for McQueen but as always, much of his genius lies in the details. And there are so many details to admire: strategic color blocking, transparent layers, blazers lined with bold metallics…
