The Victoria and Albert Museum Ballgowns Exhibition

We are so excited to be able to get up close and personal with pieces worn by some of our very favourite style icons, which includes members of the Royal Family, and famous British celebrities such as Elizabeth Hurley and Bianca Jagger. For those of you who can’t make it across the pond to this summer’s exhibition, here’s a sneaky peek at two of its finest pieces.

Princess Diana’s Elvis Dress

One of the most memorable Brit pieces present will be the late Princess Diana’s Elvis Dress (above left) which was created by designer Catherine Walker. Back in the day, Diana created the same kind of fashion effect that Kate Middleton does today, and so she too had an army of designers queuing up and asking her to wear their designs to important events. Diana chose to wear the pearl and sequin encrusted Elvis Dress to the British Fashion Awards in 1989 and then pulled it out of the wardrobe again during an official visit to Hong Kong. Recycling like a true Royal!

Alexander McQueen

Of course, true British glamour wouldn’t be complete without a few Alexander McQueen pieces thrown in. The collection will feature his Spring 2011 feathered dress (above right). As we know, despite the death of the label’s founder, the design house has been taken over by Sarah Burton, so its glamour continues. As the brand also created Kate Middleton’s high profile wedding dress, there’s no doubt that the name will forever be an important name within the British fashion industry.

Exhibition Photo-call

As part of the exhibition’s promotion, Georgia Frost got the chance to try out a few of the best pieces. Take a look below. She’s one lucky lady!
