J. Mendel Fall 2013 Runway Review

Velvet and leather are shaping up to be the two hottest fabrics of the season and Gilles Mendel was right on point with both. In fact, while the designer is best known for his fur and eveningwear, the trapunto-stitched leather pieces he showed made for some of the collection's most memorable looks.

Done in black, white with shades of royal blue, bright red, moss and burgundy in between, the collection also included beautifully draped and knotted floor-length satin gowns, velvet cocktail dresses, plush belted fur outerwear and gorgeous elongated fur vests. The designer recently expanded his offerings to include handbags and this season's fur-accented and structured styles held high appeal.
