STEPHANIE SEYMOUR, MODEL PROFILE

The supermodels of the 90’s were known for filling the pages of Vogue or for walking down the catwalks in Milan.  Model Stephanie Seymour did all that and more – while she was a staple in high fashion editorials, she was mostly famous for being the face of the notoriously sexy Victoria’s Secret.

Stephanie Seymour was born in 1968 in San Diego, California. She was not an overnight success like some of her peers.  Rather, she worked her way to the top.  Seymour started her career at the age of fourteen, modeling for department stores and even losing a modeling competition. After working for smaller campaigns for two years, she moved to New York to sign with Elite Models.

As her career started to take off, Seymour managed to make more headlines over her romantic relationships.  At age sixteen, she was linked to the head of Elite Models, John Casablanca – a man who, at the time, was not only twice Seymour’s age but married to another woman.  The relationship between Seymour and Casablanca did not last long.

It wasn’t until the late 80’s that Seymour started to receive recognition as a serious model.  In 1988, she appeared in two very different magazines – the swimsuit issue of Sports Illustrated and the cover of American Vogue.  She signed a ten year contract with Victoria’s Secret in 1990, and in 1991, after having recently given birth to her first son, she posed nude for Playboy.

Seymour was one of the biggest faces of the 90’s, seen in everything from Chanel campaigns to Diet Coke commercials, from international Vogue covers to Guns n’ Roses music videos.

One of her latest endeavours includes working as a contributing fashion editor for Interview magazine, but that isn’t to say that she only works behind the scenes now.  Pop Magazine dedicated their Spring/Summer 2008 issue to Seymour. The cover featured her wearing nothing but a corset, the word “goddess” appearing in block letters beside her.

With more than two decades of working in the fashion industry under her belt and still going strong, there is no better word than ‘goddess’ to describe Stephanie Seymour.
