RAF SIMONS MEN’S FALL 2009

When it comes to Raf Simons, there are a few traits that people have come to rely on, such as sophistication, impeccable construction and the refinement he’s shown with age. However, this collection is leaving more than a few of us scratching our heads.

The show started out with what was expected; some pretty nice suits, nicely cut jackets – all the usual things you’d expect. Soon the transition was made to what can only be described as what appeared to be bunch of very rushed concepts. Ill-fitting and oddly cut garments, a really random use of neon colors, very unflattering proportions – and let us not forget the Asics running shoe – made this an atypical Simons collection to say the least.

While I am disappointed overall, speaking objectively, there are still a few pieces here which are definitely standard Raf quality and aesthetic.

Aside from the aforementioned neon color palette, there is also a strong amount of neutrals to be seen as well as blacks in a variety of textures. Hopefully this season was a bit of a fluke and he will return to being a bit more true to form for his next showing.
