THUY F/W 2009

It’s hard to predict what in these trying times people will gravitate to when it comes to fashion. Will they go for avant-garde pieces that stand-out from the pack (i.e. cut-out pants from Alexander Wang), or will they go with safe bets like monochromatic wool coats and pencil skirts from DKNY?

Past seasons many may have overlooked designers like Thuy Diep’s Thuy collection, but in times where many are going for clean and simple pieces that can be worn through seasons, the designer delivered with an abundance of dressy frocks and coats.

Mixed in were more textured pieces like a feathered skirt, hand-beaded drapy dresses, watercolor-like prints that found its way to pants and dresses, and pants with oversized droopy pockets.

The color palette includes neutrals with cool tone highlights of blue and green.

This season also marked Thuy’s first design collaboration with New York City-based milliner, Heather Huey. The limited edition hat collection “Heather Huey for Thuy,” was specifically designed to compliment the designer’s runway looks.
