3.1 PHILIP LIM-ADELIC

The 60’s are back! Well at least in the land of Lim where clear references to the age of Beatle mania, Biba, and the 60’s London social scene (complete with Vidal Sassoonesque bob cuts) were reincarnated on the runway of 3.1 Philip Lim F/W ‘09.

The models walked down the runway to the background beats of hipster singer, Lissy Trullie, while sporting Beatle-esque slim fitting suits, worn with silk ruffle front tuxedo shirts, flowing bohemian dresses that had a distinctly vintage feel with a particular stunning piece make of silk crepe with intricate beading fringe detail along the hem.

But the focal point of the evening were the coats that came en mass.  Every cut and fabric found its way into a coat; marabou and goat hair coats, parkas with rabbit fur sleeves, shearling break-away jackets, wool Sgt. Pepper-esque military inspired jackets, and, la piece de resistance – a gold sequined jacket with fur cuffs.  Who wouldn’t want one of those to wear out on a Saturday night?

The presentation had a strong voice in a time when many designers are erring on the side of caution, opting for a safe, somewhat ambiguous voice instead of a presenting a strong opinion.  For that, in addition to his design acumen, Lim is to be commended.
