PARIS: JEAN PAUL GAULTIER F/W 09

Jean Paul Gaultier’s Fall/Winter 2009 show was a parade of S&M-influenced fashions like only the famed Frenchmen could pull off.

The collection’s looks came complete with face masks, fishnet insets on thighs, long leather gloves, fishnet jumpsuits, crochet numbers, full-on transparency, studded leather, an androgynous male/female dichotomy (the popular Gaultier theme translated into male-inspired suits followed by ornate cocktail dresses), feather detailing, opulently sexy fur coats, big X’s adorning some of the look’s bodice.  Most notably, near the end of the show, Coco Rocha got into a catfight with another model that was interrupted by a real-life dominatrix carrying a whip.

Gaultier succeeded in delivering a collection that took viewers on a fantastical and wholly theatrical journey with a strong, unique view point that just hammers home how much of a unique visionary Gaultier truly is.
