PARIS: YVES SAINT LAURENT F/W 09

This season’s Yves Saint Laurent Stefano Pilati-designed collection showed with much success just how chic monochromatic, understated looks can be.

Pilati mixed austerely tailored pieces with ones that played on volume – of particular note, a white top gathered at the sleeve that came complete with an over-sized piece of twisted fabric around the neck which the designer paired with a pencil skirt.

The designer showed a number of leather looks (including a bathing suit), along with vests worn over a bare chest, mannish jackets with big shoulders worn with short skirts, over leggings, or with dresses, along with slim belted jackets and coats.

This season’s collection perhaps did not offer up anything particularly new or innovative, it was more an interpretation of the house’s classic power-dressing spirit. That said, it’s that spirit – with its mix of austerity and sensuality – that will make many women surely covet many of these looks.
