“NIGHT STALKERS” INSTALLATION AT RUSH ART GALLERY

On April 1st, New York City artist and designer Brian Wood will be presenting “Night Stalkers,” a one night installation at Rush Arts Gallery from 6pm to 8pm. The installation is open to the public.

Always at the forefront of design and presentation, Brian Wood explores the dark depths of human nature through his Fall/Winter 2009 menswear collection.

Wood provided The Fashion Spot with details on his inspiration saying that “Night is the time from dusk to dawn when no sunlight is visible, an evening set aside for a particular purpose. A period of dreary inactivity or affliction, and absence of moral values mark the beginning of darkness. While stalkers are those who stalk, pursuing obsessively to the point of harassment…walking stiffly or haughtily pursuing prey stealthily.” Both of these elements inspired Wood to create an installation of menswear fashions that focus on cut, construction, and clever detailing.

Wood believes that the design process should be about having fun, and this is captured in his light- hearted, street fashion-inspired offerings. The designer has continually strived to push the creative envelope in menswear, while keeping his designs wearable and functional.

Before graduating in 2001 from the Pratt Institute, Wood’s talent was recognized when he was awarded an Honorable Mention from the C.F.D.A. for the Junior Scholarship program. In his last year at Pratt, Wood garnered the coveted Tommy Hilfiger’s Jury Critic Sportswear Award for his young men’s sportswear collection and he has been selected – three years in a row – as a finalist in the Gen Art Styles International Design Competition, along with finalist nominations for the 2007 and 2008 Fashion Group International Rising Star Award in menswear.
