ANNA SUI GOES MASS

It seems that every week avid fashion followers have a new mass market line to get excited about. The latest to join the crop of designers putting their name on limited edition capsule collections is Anna Sui.

The American fashion designer will be the second designer to participate in Target’s Designer Collaborations series, which is a relatively new venture for Target with a focus on more established designers compared with their groundbreaking Target Go International series. Sui will be following
Alexander McQueen’s highly hyped Designer Collaboration collection.

The capsule collection will hit target.com and approximately 250 select stores across the United States on September 13th and will be on sale through October 17th.

Sui, who is this year’s winner of the CFDA Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award, has settled on the four lead female characters on the CW’s hit show “Gossip Girl” to serve as the inspiration for her limited edition collection (for his part, McQueen was inspired by Leila Moss, the lead singer of British band The Duke Spirit for his collection).

Sui noted that she has always been a fan of designer partnerships with mass retailers, adding that she thinks “it is a great way to bring fashion to everyone. I love Go International and was intrigued with Target’s new take on designer partnerships. It’s a fresh approach. I was able to select a muse or source of creative inspiration to focus the collection around. It is an exciting challenge to try and interpret my aesthetic into a mass-produced product with a specific inspirational source as the focus.  Target was very respectful of my craft,” Sui said. “They want the product to be completely Anna Sui.”

In addition to the Target line, Sui has been working with Anthropologie on dress and sportswear programs for the last two years.
