HALSTON’S NEW CREATIVE DIRECTOR

Since having been acquired by Hilco Consumer Capital and The Weinstein Co. in 2007, Halston has been looking for the right creative fit to re-launch the iconic label.  They spent nearly a year  searching for a designer after their previous creative director, Marco Zanini, left after two seasons.

There was no shortage of excitement when 31-year-old Marios Schwab was finally announced as Halston’s new creative director. The designer spoke with British Vogue and had a number of interesting insights to share. Among the most notable tidbits are that while Schwab moved from London to New York to helm Halston, he is planning on showing his namesake collection (launched in 2005) in London.

The designer noted that he loves the thought of having two fashion metropolises: “London is amazing inspiration and New York is an interesting place to be.  It’s important what comes out of both these cities.”

By no means is Schwab taking his new position lightly. He notes that he feels the pressure, adding that it is a “huge challenge, but fashion at the moment needs innovation. I would be hesitant to do just one thing.  It’s important to be able to create and be open-minded.”

The designer stressed that his new post is “a dream” and that he loves Halston, especially given that they “share a very similar frame of simplicity and elegance as well as the technical approach.”

The first Schwab-designed Halston collection will debut next February for Fall 2010.
