CELEBRITY DESIGNER NEWS: BEYONCE AND NICOLE RICHIE

While many Beyonce fans might have no clue what House of Dereon is (the name of Beyonce and her mother’s clothing line), most are familiar with the songbird’s alter-ego Sasha Fierce. Looking to capitalize on this, Beyonce and her mother, Tina Knowles, are launching a new back-to-school junior line called Sasha Fierce.  This is also the name of the singer’s third solo album, inspired by Beyonce’s stage presence.

The collection will include a full range of sportswear, outerwear, handbags, footwear, eye wear, lingerie, and jewelry, and will be similar in price to Dereon’s junior label.  The line has already been picked up by Macy’s and Dillard’s, Jimmy Jazz, and Against All Odds, among others.  Tina Knowles said that the line is edgier and trendier than Dereon’s junior line and “reflects Sasha Fierce’s daring and outgoing attitude.”

She added that the jewelry, shoes and eye wear are really over the top – which is a little bothersome given the demographic the line is aimed at. Do young girls really need to be wearing large chain necklaces, studded shoes, and oversized sunglasses?

Knowles continued by saying Beyonce’s current nationwide tour, which runs through November and is outfitted by Thierry Mugler, has a distinctive stylistic point of view which the mother-daughter duo are hoping to celebrate via this junior collection.

The collection wholesales from $25 to $75.

While we’ve never been much of a fan of House of Dereon, there were a number of jewelry pieces from Nicole Richie’s House of Harlow 1960 line that we have found to be wholly covetable. The socialite and soon-to-be mother of two is expanding her line and it will now include a capsule maternity wear collection that was designed with A Pea in the Pod. The collection of maternity wear is set to be released in August, along with an ad campaign staring Richie that was shot by photographer James White.
