NICOLE MILLER S/S 2010

Nicole Miller showed a much edgier, sexier collection this season with a number of looks featuring hard-edged pointed shoulders and collars, but they were often times paired with sporty zipper touches and biker shorts (thus setting her apart from the countless other designers doing Balmain-esque pieces).  Swivels of prints popped up throughout the collection, and a few of them reminded me of the car crash-inspired designs Hussein Chalayan showed a few seasons back. In Miller’s case, they are less futuristic and more urban with a sporty sensibility. These are looks for women on the go who lead active lives, but still want form-flattering looks to show off their figures.

With that in mind, sheerness – an interesting off-set to Miller’s sporty touches – played a critical part in the collection with a number of completely sheer tops making their way down the runway paired with shorts of varying degrees. A parade of minis were also featured which perhaps didn’t display much in the way of innovation, but were well-executed, wearable, and classic enough that they will be able to transcend seasons.
