LFW: AQUASCUTUM S/S 2010

In an intimate space on the second floor of their Regent Street store, Aquascutum showed a safari-inspired collection of maxi dresses, trenches – and shockingly – bucket hats.

While there were some standout pieces, including a perfectly casual pair of wide-leg trousers on Coco Rocha, and one trench with an exaggerated ruffle, the collection felt a bit banal.

Models donned either a plain bucket hat or the slicked top hair that was popular last season. The revolving presentation that was slated to go on all day meant there was less hype, and a definitely smaller audience.

Groups of 20-30 saw the show, while others could watch from the reception area where the presentation was being shown on a video loop. The one area where the classic British house outshone its presentation competitors was where a second set of samples were on display outside the presentation area.

While this may seem redundant, it was a fantastic opportunity to see the craftsmanship – which was excellent.
