PARIS: COMME DES GARCONS S/S 2010

Rei Kawakubo must have a wicked sense of humor – not that we’d ever see it.

For the Spring 2010 presentation of Comme des Garçons, her conceptual collection that has garnered an impressive cult-status, she took a somewhat comical and ironic reinterpretation of last season’s trends.

Using a mixed-media interpretation, sharp shoulders and mixed prints were jumbled together and rearranged in true Kawakubo form. Structured shoulders were positioned across jackets and dresses, but shoulders to fill them need not apply.

Applying her signature conceptualist perspective to classic silhouettes resulted in a wonderful pairing of the perfect wide-leg pant with jackets and overwear suitable only for the daring.

Notes from the designer’s collaboration with Speedo were interjected throughout with the showing of Spandex bike shorts in simple black, and the designer’s signature polka dot.

In what is sure to please the label’s die-hard fans, this season was another win for the designer who never ceases to amaze.
