BCBGMaxAzria Spring 2014: Black Never Looked So Good for Spring

Kicking off the major New York shows, BCBGMaxAzria showed a stellar lineup done almost exclusively in relaxed silhouettes. While there were a few daring looks – a bondage-print lingerie top worn under a vest, crop tops, a bra top dress and backless tail hem separates – most of the pieces were casual in cut, giving the collection perfect-for-spring ease and movement.

The palette offered up soft lavender, beige, blush, baby blue and white alongside floral watercolor prints and black. Who says you can’t wear black in the heat? The embellished black chiffon finale gown was, without a doubt, a standout that could work year-round, as could the floral print embellished black cocktail dresses.

Peplums were also back this season, but this time they were halved and offset to the side, which worked particularly well on a floor-length floral skirt. A sleeveless trench and a slew of menswear-inspired shirtdresses, some done with drop waists, also stood out, as did slit skirts and flowy dresses with floral and sheer panels peeking out from their hems.
