Marc Jacobs Spring 2014: It’s the End of the World…

Well this must be a first: models at the Marc Jacobs show this season were made to look as though they had “unhealthy skin.” It was fitting to complement the dark hued, austere collection, which was shown against a decaying beach background.

Opening with a series of structured military-style tops with ballooning Victorian-style shoulders paired with over-the-knee cropped pants and slip-on flats, the designer then progressed into a series of what appeared to be Far East-inspired prints and cuts before tapestry-like, tasseled fabrics took to the runway. The somber show capped off with a series of overly embellished floor-length gowns. None of it appeared particularly wearable especially when considering that it was a spring collection, but who knows…maybe come Spring 2014 we’ll all be into ballooning shoulders and androgynous Bermuda shorts.
