Vivienne Westwood Spring 2014: A Colorful Fairytale

It wouldn’t be a Vivienne Westwood collection without an element of costume and while there was some of that in the handful of lace and fairytale looks that opened her show (and later with a cape-topped dress and some cocktail dresses with clashing prints and textures), much of this season’s collection was wholly wearable — even when the designer veered into colorfully printed territory.

Offsetting long flowing prints with monochrome structured separates, this season didn’t have the heavy, near impossible to pull off layering that we so often see on Westwood’s runways. Standouts included her draped gowns with large skirts, sharply tailored jackets and blazers with angled shoulders, pleated oversized floral print skirts and a series of cowl neck dresses.
