Sarah Burton went tribal for her African-inspired Spring 2014 collection for Alexander McQueen. That translated into patchwork, plush feather accents, graphic black, red and white colorways, chokers, structured gold armbands and bracelets, and plenty of cut-outs. McQueen's signature warrior shapes remained a constant throughout and the collection included countless harnesses.
Awe-inspiring to watch, the most elaborately crafted looks weren't exactly wearable. There was retail appeal, however, in a number of the pieces including empire waist mini dresses, a paneled high-waist skirt, boldly colored outerwear with rounded shoulders, a drop waist cocktail dress and the gladiator shoes.
