Big Hair and Other Beauty Revamp Advice from Drybar’s Alli Webb

After months of Christmas music, holiday decorations and an unusually heavy dose of winter weather, the holidays are finally here! You’re off work, hopefully with loved ones and probably nursing a cocktail or two. Before the eggnog fully takes hold, use this free time to embody an “Out with the Old, In with the New” mentality — and I’m not talking about a beverage refill.

With 2014 looming on the horizon, there’s never been a better time to refresh your beauty routine. From tossing crusty hair products to finally kicking that eyebrow-overplucking habit, let’s take a good sober look at our beauty regimen with the help of an expert: Drybar Founder Alli Webb.

Julie Bensman: With a new year upon us, how important is it to clean out our medicine cabinets?

Alli Webb: So important. I tend to hold on to my creme products too long — those need to be refreshed pretty regularly.

JB: When it comes to skincare, what is the single best thing a woman can do?

AW: I didn’t do much in my 20s, but have really embraced eye creams in my 30s. Looking ahead, I see lots of hydrating masks in my future.

JB: If you were stranded on a desert island and could only bring 3 products with you, what would they be?

AW:

  1. Lemon Drop Detangler
  2. Sunblock!
  3. Mudslide Hydrating mask

JB: If you are what you eat, which diet tips will keep our skin and hair glowing in 2014?

AW: I am currently on a kale shake kick. I blend kale and apple juice for a delicious, healthy morning beverage. And of course, drink lots and lots of water.

JB: What’s the best beauty advice you’ve ever received?

AW: Smile when you apply blush for ideal placement.

JB: Which beauty trend will be big in the New Year?

AW: I’m excited for big hair — I think it’s going to make a major comeback in 2014.
