Spring 2014 Haute Couture Kicks Off with Versace (and Lady Gaga)

Who else besides Lady Gaga to accompany Donatella Versace as she kicks off the Haute Couture season? Better yet, the show itself lived up to the power duo’s glossy high octane hype.

A running Middle Eastern-meets-Grace Jones vibe pervaded the collection with a slew of dresses and separates finished with glimmering hoods. Ostentatiously on-brand, the pieces were both remarkably unique while being wearable (well, at least, wearable when one bears Versace’s clientele in mind). The collection’s few missteps occurred when embroidery was mixed with cut-outs and draped silk jersey. Exceedingly better success was found in the power skirt suits, sheer-paneled dresses, slim trousers, fur outerwear, jumpsuits and slashed gowns.

One thing’s for sure, the first celebrity to walk a red carpet in a hooded Swarovski-embellished gown will no doubt steal the show.
