Baroque Goes Street at Zimmermann Fall 2014 (Runway Review)

The Inspiration: Baroque-goes-street: chasing (and definitely nailing) a vibe that proves fancy can be wearable—everyday dressed-up. You don’t need a gala invite to rock these pieces.

The Look: Voluminous silky dresses and separates in solids and prints and ingenious pieced-together garments have sections smartly held together with buttons (giving them a slightly Western feel and making them at once fancier and slightly tougher). The look is effortless, though it’s clear that plenty of effort went into these gorgeous looks. Somehow a fuzzy sweater dress skews more luxe than comfy, and short-sleeved moto jacket/dress is extremely tempting.

The Accessories: Ubiquitous ribbon bolos topped every look. The bags were boxy, structured, the shoes: black booties colorblocked with gold ribbons.

The Beauty: Fresh faces and deep-plum lips added to the drama, as did deeply parted, slicked-back hair. Masculine-feminine to the max.

The Takeaway: The baroque trend of seasons past needn’t die just yet, as long as designers take Zimmermann’s lead by remixing it to be appropriate for the NYC streets.
