Betsey Johnson Turns Up the Heat for Fall 2014 (Runway Review)

The Scene: We don’t want to give too much away, but let’s just say a pair of shirtless “firemen” kind of stole the show (and smartphone camera attention).

The Look: Betsey Johnson is really good at making both cute party dresses along with surprisingly cool and affordable jewelry. While the styling at her shows is always more about fun than it is realism (one outfit was comprised of a sparkling gold top, a hot pink shrug, a silver velvet skirt and striped knee socks), there are typically quite a few pieces that one could imagine plucking from the collection and wearing regularly. For example, a fuzzy bright orange sweater and a shimmering green minidress. The ending model march, with the women dancing in pink tops that said “Betsey’s Hot” made sense of the opening print — a slightly risque pattern of topless cartoon ladies.

The Accessories: Tall platform heels and bags, novelty (a mini keyboard clutch) and not. Earflap hats and rings shaped like rats.

The Beauty: Bright pinky-metallic lips and shiny or smoky lids.

The Takeaway: The fashion world’s perennial prom queen goes neon (and rather sexy).
