Plenty of Buzz for Giles’ Fall 2014 Collection Thanks to Kendall Jenner (Runway Review)

The Scene: Kendall Jenner continues her Fashion Week journey by walking in Giles’ show. Once again, she was cast by Love Magazine Editor-in-Chief Katie Grand, who also put her in the Marc Jacobs show. This also follows Jenner being spotted front row seated next to Anna Wintour at Topshop Unique. The reality star turned model told reporters she hopes to walk in Milan and Paris shows as well.

The Inspiration: “An aggressive melancholy,” according to WWD.

The Look: Giles Deacon’s “aggressive” inspiration translated into prints with thorny vines and birds with pointed beaks. The motifs made their way onto everything from fitted cropped black jackets to flared orange skirts. Also in the lineup were sculpted and folded dresses, quilted separates, oversized plaid, chunky knits and, in a nod to the designer’s penchant for the quirky, cartoonish beanies. While the collection was a success — especially when it came to the folded cocktail dresses — the styling could have used some improvement; the opera gloves should have been tossed and the mannish flats replaced with something more sophisticated.

The Accessories: Mannish lace-up flats and combat-style short boots.

The Beauty: Bright blue liner and flat, unwashed-looking hair.

The Takeaway: A beautiful collection despite some styling mishaps.
