Missoni Finds Inspiration in a Free-Spirited Woman for Fall 2014 (Runway Review)

The Scene: It’s been a tragic last few months for the Missonis following prominent deaths in the family, but the family appears to be holding strong with Angela Missoni’s mother Rosita taking in the show with her grandchildren.

The Inspiration: “A free-spirited woman.”

The Look: In keeping with Angela Missoni’s inspiration of a free-spirited, relaxed woman wearing men’s clothes, the collection was relaxed in silhouette, particularly when it came to outerwear, but dresses and tops were considerably more fitted. The brand’s signature colorful knits were graphic and amplified this season with oversized colorblocked zigzag designs. There was also a surprising amount of monochrome pieces making for a collection that may increase the brand’s reach beyond those looking for cozy, bright knits. The best looks were the outerwear pieces, especially the parkas in colorfully geometric and monochrome versions.

The Accessories: Colorful booties, dual-colored gloves, structured leather handbags and fanny packs.

The Beauty: An aggressive black eye, neutral lips and hair was worn up with a few pieces pulled out for a relaxed look.

The Takeaway: A strong collection with plenty of covetable outerwear options.
