Barbara Bui Presents a Winter Power Wardrobe for Fall 2014 (Runway Review)

The Inspiration: The sartorial possibilities of fall and winter.

The Look: The winter power wardrobe, realized. Luxurious chunky, white knits, sleek, moto-inspired jackets and abstract animal print for good measure. Bui’s collection felt inspired by both Paris and also New York with street smart pieces featuring a little boho flair thrown in (knee-skimming ponchos, flowy sheer tops). While the collection might tend to blur together in a kind of city girl, monochrome rainbow, there were some standouts, like a jacket with huge cuffs and collar that appeared to be of a metallic knit, but was actually outerwear studded to the extreme, so almost no fabric underneath could be detected. The leather jacket with contrasting sherpa sleeves was pretty rad, too, (as was the fur/leather moto jacket) and the creased white pants with elastic waist proved a nice, simple foil to the collections more complicated pieces.

The Accessories: Platform leather booties that came to a nice point.

The Beauty: Freshly scrubbed faces and hair sleek, but overdone.

The Casting: Karlie Kloss closed in a furry overcoat and leather leggings.

The Takeaway: Go with Bui when you want New York, Parisian — and animal — chic.
