John Galliano Keeps It Natural and Luxe for Fall 2014 (Runway Review)

The Inspiration: The natural world…gone luxe, kinda.

The Look: Nature-gone-luxe with rusty splatter prints and tidy patterns of gathered stones marking elegant silhouettes and fabrics. Think a pretty gray velvet dress sprayed with rust tones and muted turquoise as well as a print featuring stones arranged according to color decorating a deep-V dress and cardigan. Since you expect nonstop luxury from the Galliano label, this almost felt subdued — until you got to the fur collars, the alligator-effect jumpsuit and the bodysuit-cum-gown made of royal purple. That said, most embellishment was pretty pared back, including seams dotted with plain silver pieces or a fur section on a big-shouldered sweater.

The Accessories: Stone belts, extra large sequined beanies and complicated zip-up snakeskin platform booties. And one fur/snakeskin clutch for glam factor.

The Beauty: Filled-in brows, but otherwise nothing too crazy.

The Takeaway: Even considering the floor-length pale velvet, this outing felt weirdly tame.
