Toronto Fashion Week Fall 2014: Soia & Kyo and Matthew Gallagher

1. Soia & Kyo

Celebrating its 10-year anniversary, Montreal-based brand Soia & Kyo delivered on its promise of combining sharp men’s tailoring with a strong feminine undertone to create modern, effortless outerwear. The new line was a coat collector’s dream with a collection of structured wool jackets in soft contrasting textures. Choice pieces included the fur trimmed arctic white wool and the variety of trenches in cool shades of beige, grey and blush.

2. Matthew Gallagher

Heralded as the “one to watch” this season, Nova Scotia-born rising star Matthew Gallagher closed out the week with his story of “a beautifully dark harmony between the Edwardian and Victorian periods, enveloped by modern vision.” What does that mean for your wardrobe? Corsetry, wool wraps, fishtail hemlines and moody hues of bottle green, burgundy and black with enough skin (and vampish lips) on show to make even the most devil-may-care of history’s jezebels blush.
