Following the much buzzed about Chanel and Dior shows, Oscar de la Renta, Etro, Just Cavalli and Bottega Veneta show standout Resort 2015 collections. Here's a look at some of the major takeaways.
Leave it to Tomas Maier to make lemons into lemonade; the designer’s resort collection for Bottega Veneta was inspired by the bleach spots that result when you accidentally mix your colors with whites when doing laundry. While Maier didn’t actually bleach his designs, the effect was evident in his streaked fabrics, which were fashioned into ladylike cinched-at-the-waist dresses and maxi dresses. The faux bleach treatment also bled onto handbags with beautiful results.
Here’s something you might never have thought – you might soon be sporting Just Cavalli to your next workout. Inspired by the current activewear trend, the designer showed a colorfully sporty collection.
Oscar de la Renta
Oscar de la Renta’s collection ranged the gamut from streamlined day dresses and pantsuits to carefully folded origami cocktail dresses and gowns. The color palette similarly ranged from black and white, to bright shades like magenta, all the while sticking to the designer’s signature refined ladylike aesthetic. Silhouette and embellishments were on the tame side this season with ostentatious feathers replaced with floral embroidery and silhouettes kept relatively tight to the body.

Etro fans are always game for floral and paisley prints and they’ll have plenty to pick from come resort. As for silhouettes, they took on a sporty dimension with casual drapes and sneakers paired with a number of the colorful looks. While there was much to love in many of the bold designs – which included a black and yellow fur jacket – styling-wise, the bold pieces worked best paired with neutrals versus when they were paired together for clashing print on print looks.
