One Minute with … Designer Lela Rose

Lela Rose is big time in the Big Apple, but that doesn’t mean she’s forgotten her southern roots. Quite the contrary…

theFashionSpot: What’s your inspiration this season?

Lela Rose: I have a collection of vintage kimonos and was recently thinking of wearing one of them. I’m always amazed at the beauty of a kimono, from the mixing of graphics with florals to the sloped sleeve and wrapped shape. I wanted to use that as a starting point, but to modernize it for today.

tFS: You’re from Texas. What’s the most southern thing about you?

LR: My love of a home-cooked meal (and a good cocktail).

tFS: What’s your signature down-home dish?

LR: I have a lot, but maybe my green chili chicken enchiladas or winter white chili.

tFS: What do you miss south of the Mason-Dixon line?

LR: The abundant outdoors, my family and Tex-Mex.

tFS: When does your accent come out the most?

LR: After a few margaritas.
