Trendspotting: Grunge Vibes from New York to London

We love a good Spring 2015 trend (who doesn’t?) and right now we’re all for the grungy, 80s/90s beauty looks we’ve seen so far this Fashion Month. The bowl shag at Marc Jacobs was all anyone could talk about on the last night of NYFW. The jet-black, Joey Ramone-esque wigs mark the fourth consecutive season the New York designer has used faux hair for his show. “Texture is also very important for this look,” explained stylist Guido Palau. To get the look, he used Redken’s Fashion Waves 07 ($19) when the wigs were wet to get a chunky texture, and then Wind Blown 05, “to add dry, airy texture, so it feels a little more graphic.”

Then came Rodarte where the always-cool Mulleavy sisters gave us drool-worthy shoes and brow rings we can’t stop dreaming about. Makeup artist James Kaliardos placed brow rings along models’ natural eyebrows, and softened the look by giving them a youthful and fresh makeup look.

“Victorian by grungy” was the hair Toni & Guy stylist Sacha Mascolo-Tarbuck described backstage at the Giles show in London. The look went beyond the hair and into the makeup that artist Lucia Pieroni used for a “sooty cat’s eye.” Pieroni blended MAC Eye Shadow in Black Tied ($16) and Soot, and applied it on the lids and under the eyes for a smoky look that was coming from the inner corners of the eyes.

The grunge trend is so good, we’ll be recreating it very soon (stay tuned!).
