One Minute With … Designer Reem Acra

The resounding message at Reem Acra‘s Fall 2015 bridal show was simple: Your wedding should be fun! Elegant two-piece gowns drove her MO home along with twinkling floral garlands nestled in her models’ updos. Before the show, we grabbed a quick chat with the designer backstage.

theFashionSpot: What inspired you this season?

Reem Acra: There’s a sensuality around this season, but in a refined way. There’s a lot of cut-outs and two-pieces. Embroidery with lace is happening in a big way.

tFS: You just showed ready-to-wear and now you’re onto bridal. Do you ever have a day off?

RA: No, it’s crazy! All my friends around me can’t believe the amount of work that goes into making a brand successful. It’s never easy. I don’t see a vacation coming up until maybe Christmas.

tFS: What’s your most memorable bridal moment so far?

RA: The very first dress that I ever designed was unbelievable. The wedding was at the Hôtel de Crillon in Paris on New Year’s Eve. That was the beginning. The brand was created in an atmosphere that couldn’t have been better.

tFS: If you weren’t a designer, what would you do?

RA: Interior design and event planning. It all goes hand-in-hand.

tFS: If you were to walk down the aisle today, what type of gown would you choose?

RA: Actually, in this collection, there were many dresses that I thought I would wear. The first and second looksthey’re two-piece gownswould be what I would choose. I’m an older bride yet I’m modern. I think it’s good to be cool.
