One Minute With … Costello Tagliapietra

Costello Tagliapietra’s collection was a lovely romp through the woods. It was everything that fall should be: Plaids, wool and knits combined with the gorgeous draping we’re accustomed to seeing from the dynamic duo. The pieces were at once comfortable and effortlessly stylish, the women’s equivalent to what the designers themselves wear.

We spoke to Jeffrey Costello and Robert Tagliapietra backstage after the show about the collection and true inspiration behind it all (hint; their bulldog).

theFashionSpot: I liked the whole layers and fall and plaid. Was there a place you guys were basing it all on? It was very outdoorsy.

Robert Tagliapietra: Ironically, when we adopted Eugene [the duo’s bulldog], part of his list of needs was to go for walks because he was so hyperactive.

tFS: I love that it’s dog-based!

RT: So, we start going for walks. And I think the colors and all that came from going for walks and there’s such a magic to when the earth is silent and there’s no cell phones and it felt so relevant.

tFS: I’m this close to packing up and moving to a cabin.

RT: That’s what I mean! And do you know how often we hear that? There’s something so relevant about that to us. So, it just seemed like kind of a time to interject what we wear ourselves. And as it played out, it just seemed so natural.

tFS: And the draping I thought — every season I think your draping gets more and more intense.

RT: We wanted all the tailoring to not feel tailored. We wanted it to feel…

tFS: It was easy. As a woman, I’d wear it and not feel constricted.

RT: Again, it’s how we dress. Our suits are made out of comfortable wools and fabrics.
