One Minute With … Designer Tanya Taylor

Emerging designer Tanya Taylor is slowly but surely becoming a fashion industry darling, and it’s not hard to see why. Her feminine silhouettes and trademark graphic prints look stunning on everyone from Liv Tyler to Michelle Obama. We caught up with the designer backstage at her Fall 2015 show to learn a little bit more about what makes her tick.

theFashionSpot: Inspiration, please!

Tanya Taylor: It came from this little fishing tackle. I don’t actually fish. It’s about mixing the functional, sharp element with something beautiful. I wanted a sharp collection, and one that focused a lot more on outerwear.

tFS: What’s your Fashion Week bedtime?

TT: Last night it was 3:00 a.m.

tFS: What do you like to snack on when you’re designing?

TT: Pomegranate seeds.

tFS: What are your hobbies?

TT: I’m in a book club and a bowling team in the fall!

tFS: Are you an excellent bowler?

TT: I’m pretty good. Sometimes when my team is suffering, I’ll bring my husband because he’s the best.

tFS: If you weren’t a designer, what would you be—besides a professional bowler?

TT: I actually studied the LSATs and thought I’d go to law school. I would love to be a fashion lawyer.
