One Minute With … Alice + Olivia’s Stacey Bendet

Alice + Olivia proved to be one of the most popular presentations this season—the crowd to get in was large and packed. But once you saw the clothes for Fall 2015, you understood why. They were gorgeous. The inspiration was Swinging London by way of Morocco, and designer Stacey Bendet incorporated jacquards, lace, hand-beading, all coming together for a gorgeous effect.

We spoke with Bendet at her presentation about the collection.

theFashionSpot: The patterns and textures are beautiful.

Stacey Bendet: Yeah, I kept saying that I wanted texture to be the new print this season.

tFS: You could wear one of these dresses and not need an accessory.

SB: They’re kind of like all statement pieces. We do a lot of basics; we have a career line, we have a knit line, all our basics, so when I do the show, I want it to be fun and novelty.

tFS: What made you decide to do this era? The 60s and the 70s.

SB: I had watched this movie on The Rolling Stones about their period in exile and I always have this obsession—for Pre-Fall, I did the whole Loulou de la Falaise and then I was researching that whole era in Morocco where you have The Rolling Stones and Talitha Getty and YSL and all convening there.

tFS: There is a very strong Eastern feel to it.

SB: And there was that period in swinging London where you had people going back and forth and I wanted to combine the two.

tFS: If you had to choose, is there one piece that’s your favorite?

SB: In each vignette I change my favorite.
