Paris Fashion Week Spring 2016 Hits and Misses (Forum Buzz)

Paris Fashion Week so far? To hear forum members tell it, it’s something of a disaster — a disappointment to put it mildly. Of course, there were a few collections that garnered praise, but really it’s the misses we all want to read about, right? Here’s a look at the latest that rose to the top and sank to the bottom.

The Hits: Alexander McQueen, Comme des Garçons, Haider Ackermann; Images: Imaxtree

THE HITS:

Alexander McQueen

“Absolutely gorgeous! She really delivered this time. Anything with pants was a total winner, but there were some really nice dresses, especially toward the end. The closing dress was a nice nod to McQueen himself.” [StoneSkipper]

“One of her best collections yet, and of course, from the season. There are some references to Fall 2006, Spring 2007 and Fall 2008… a mix of Pagan, Highlands and India. Deep into McQueen’s DNA but she also made it very approachable and contemporary. The long cream coats, the pants, the embroidered denim pieces, the red military jackets and the stunning dresses… not a single moment of imperfection.” [Marc10]

“That was absolutely gorgeous. Sarah is really coming into her own as the head of McQueen. This collection was really fresh and new but also very distinctly McQueen. The final gown was everything!” [Nepenthes]

Comme des Garçons

“YAAASSS!!!!! How refreshing is it to have someone just go WILD like this?! It’s been so long since we’ve had designers making statements. This is fashion as ART. It doesn’t have to be wearable, it doesn’t have to sell. This is a presentation of an idea, of a feeling. I adore it.” [happycanadian]

“Amazing ideas!! A nice refreshing side of fashion. Always looking forward to CDG for some unwearable… maybe wearable for the 1% pure avant-garde fashion. Always challenging to the eye but truly beautiful work of art. The construction and sewing always amazes me!” [krncandi]

“I ♥ you Rei forever! You make me want to laugh, you make me want to cry, you make me feel. You are a genius!” [gazebo]

Haider Ackermann

“I absolutely love it! There’s just something ethereal and magical about this.” [Nomar]

“Love it. He’s moving forward but it’s still Haider Ackermann through and through.” [MyNameIs]

“Fabulous play with contrasts. Tough and tender. Stark blacks with neons and pastels and those feather headpieces are fab! Really, he’s picking up for Ann Demeulemeester… another poet with edge.” [Not Plain Jane]
