theFashionSpot: What is it about shoes that inspired you to be a designer?
Sarah Flint: Shoes are a way to add a little playfulness to your wardrobe, which is something that has always appealed to me. It’s always been about the shoes!
tFS: Your designs prove that shoes can be both chic and comfortable. What do you think makes the “perfect” shoe?
SF: To me, a shoe is perfect when it makes you feel beautiful and chic, but fits seamlessly into your daily life.
tFS: What are some of the challenges you faced when launching your brand?
SF: It can be challenging to stand out as a small brand in the market, but I want to make sure my shoes have a point of view that is unique. Each season, new women find us and fall in love for that point of view.
tFS: What lessons did you take from your internships at DVF and Proenza Schouler?
SF: I think those experiences really helped me to gain a real understanding of the industry and how it functions on a day-to-day basis. They taught me so much about balancing design and business and were invaluable because of it.
tFS: What is the best fashion advice you’ve ever received?
SF: Put on a fabulous pair of shoes with anything and it makes the outfit.
tFS: What helps keep you inspired?
SF: My customers. I love going to trunk shows and meeting the women who wear my shoes. Hearing their stories and seeing how they wear my shoes and style them is endlessly interesting to me.
tFS: What’s next for your brand? Any desire to move beyond shoes?
SF: In school, I also studied handbags and small leather goods. I would love to expand the collection one day to include bags that complement the shoes.
