MARC JACOBS, NATHALIE RYKIEL, MAYBELLINE: DESIGNER NEWS

With Couture Week wrapping up, I can’t help but think ahead to New York Fashion Week. With MAC having migrated to Milk Studios, Maybelline New York will continue on for the second year at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week as the official makeup sponsor, and they have just announced their official line-up for the Fall 2010 shows. The drugstore beauty brand will be coming up with the beauty looks (overseen by Maybelline global makeup artist Charlotte Willer) for RVCA x Erin Wasson, Michael Angel, Vivienne Tam, Custo Barcelona, Carlos Miele, Tracey Reese, Max Azria, and William Rast, among others.  Maybelline worked with Michael Angel, Tracy Reese, and Erin Wasson for their looks during the Spring Summer 2010 show season as well.

In other designer news, Marc Jacobs and Nathalie Rykiel were both just awarded the medal of Arts and Letters by the French government. The award is meant to recognize those that have made significant contributions to the arts, literature, or related fields in France, and those recognized are not limited to French nationals (up to 200 people are honored each year). The prestigious award was handed to both designers by French culture minister Frederick Mitterand at the French culture ministry in Paris. Marc Jacobs gave his speech in French, telling the AP that being bestowed this honor is one of the ‘greatest honors and that is why I made a point in giving my speech, which I wrote myself and repeated all night, in French.’

Sonia Rykiel – the founder of the namesake label and legendary designer – was on hand as her daughter, who is now the Sonia Rykiel president and artistic director, accepted her honor.
