INSIDE OC61: A TFS EXCLUSIVE

A busy schedule, blisteringly cold weather, and a family emergency that had me traveling overseas during the vital two weeks prior to New York Fasion Week left me unable to give my hair the attention it deserved. However, there was no way I could let myself be seen at the shows with bi-polar color overwrought with split ends.

Upcoming season aside, O’Connor has worked with Badgley Mischka, Ports 1961, Joanna Mastroianni, Versace, Gucci, Tuleh, J. Mendel, Nanette Lepore, Oscar de la Renta, Imitation of Christ, Catherine Malandrino and Victoria’s Secret, and with countless celebrities including Beyoncé, Elizabeth Rohm, Carmen Electra, Jessica Simpson, Eliza Dushku, Kirsten Dunst and Shannon Doherty, as well as top models such as Coco Rocha and Eugenia Silva. It’s exciting for me as a New Yorker that O’Connor branched out on her own when in 2004 she opened her salon and spa (OC61 is an acronym for “O’Connor” and the salon’s prestigious 61st Street location). The zen quality of the salon made it the perfect place to head before all the pre-Fashion Week madness.

As for color, while coloring hair isn’t commonly done on models during Fashion Week (too time-consuming), through speaking with master colorist Laurie Daniel I came to learn that Gisele and Jen Aniston are the most common celeb-hair requests (though Kate Hudson is Daniel’s personal fave). Daniel’s specialty is blonde hair – ranging from pale champagne to buttery blonde – deep chocolate brunettes, and fiery reds, so my dirty blond color was a perfect match for her incredible (and surprisingly quick) hand. A blonde herself, Daniel is a very influential colorist.  Her work has been in demand for MTV, The Style Network, The Today Show, Allure, Marie Claire, New York Magazine, and ton of others.

Can’t wait to see what the hair on the runway is like in a few days and how it will be translated into everyday styles.
