LANVIN PARIS F/W 2010

One can always count on Alber Elbaz to deliver a consistent, but exciting collection for Lanvin. This season Elbaz was feeling dark – each of the stern-faced models walked out with black pencil straight shoulder-length banged hair, and nearly every look was black or grey.

The daytime looks were boldly sculpted, dramatic, and powerful with their shoulders and stark lines.  But in a testament to Elbaz’s unique talent (Tilda Swinton must be dying over almost every monochromatic look), he knows just where to put a pleat or a rounded curve to create a powerful mix of drama and femininity, resulting in faultless collection of wearable looks.

Gold has been a big trend in Paris, and Elbaz also showed a handful of metallic cocktail looks that were a wonderful contrast to the monochromatic daytime looks. Frilly and bustling with details, Elbaz can never be accused of being boring, nor of adding details just for the sake of drama.  These are traits which set him apart from almost every other designer.

The piece de resistence? Gorgeous shoes, which included strapped exotics, and pumps lined with fur at the back.
